Confidence To Be All We Were Made To Be!

When we have confidence in who God made us, we discover our destiny. Otherwise, we live in constant frustration of trying to be something we’re not. For me, this is a critical, life-long lesson.

The first time I heard the song “Try” by Colbie Caillat (2014), it resonated deeply with me. She sings of making herself beautiful and fit as part of “trying” to be liked by others. We get so wrapped up in whether “they” LIKE us, that we forget that God LOVES us! Thus, we “try” to be everything we’re not—just to be “loved.” Sadly, most of the time we don’t even like who we become after we’ve become what we think they want! Furthermore, what “they” want constantly changes with each new wind of pop culture! God never changes.

He wants us to be exactly who He created us to be! When we trust God, we desire to be exactly what He designed us to be. We no longer draw our confidence from the fickle crowd; but rather, from our loving, Almighty Father. When God is our source of confidence, then our only fear is—not what the crowd thinks—but it is— to be without Him. The Bible says: “In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.”

(Proverbs 14:26) “Fearing” the Lord is to have an awe and respect for Him which comes from spending time in His presence. It is adoring Him above anyone or anything. As we spend time with Him, He reveals the uniqueness and wonder of who He created us to be. We become supremely confident in our identity as His child. Confidence from God peacefully cradles us at night and empowers us by day.

We’re not wadded up trying to live like someone we were never created to be. Our confidence in Him makes us confident in who He made us. His Word promises us: “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6) When we’re close to God, we become all we were made to be!
