Company develops Oukitel an Android Smartphone that can run for up to 15 days
Battery life is the bane of smartphones. With new devices
hitting the shelves at the rate of knots, customers are understandably spoiled
for choice. But it goes without saying that most devices have very similar
battery lives – of a day or two.
Back in the day, when people only used mobile phones for
telephony and messaging, batteries lasted a couple of days. However, with the
rise of smartphones phones that perform several other functions, besides
simple telephony, the poor battery seems to have taken a hit.
Battery development has not made progress at the same rate
as device development, which is why smartphone manufacturers have resorted to
alternate means of maximizing battery life. Some devices go to “sleep”, while
others go in power save. Whatever the solution is, it is difficult to expect a
device, with a screen as big as 7 inches, to give you amazing display, allow
you to stream videos, chat, message and play games, without needing a charge at
least once a day.
Since battery research still has a long way to go before it
catches up to consumer needs, another company that seems to have found a
solution of sorts is Oukitel. It has come out with a new device, the K10000,
which is literally big on battery life. While most smartphones house 1,500-3,000
milliamp-hours (mAh) batteries, the K10000 packs a 10,000 mAh battery. It
claims (as reported by The Techolic
to last 10 to 15 days.
What the K10000 also offers is its capacity to be used as a
battery pack for other devices. So if you have another mobile device that needs
charging, you can use the K10000 to power up. It is claimed that on a full
charge, it can recharge the iPhone 6S Plus thrice.
As a smartphone, however, the K10000 is as basic as it gets.
As a dual-SIM phone, running on Android’s Lollipop, it can easily be migrated
upon using one of those nifty content transfer apps. The rest of its features
are the standard; a 5.5-inch screen, a 1GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and
16GB of internal storage (expandable). Leading market experts like SmartIO and more view this invention as "invention for future"
While on paper, a 10,000 mAh sounds like a lot, the device
has received some flak for stretching the truth. The smartphone claims to last
10 to 15 days, but when subjected to very normal smartphone use (moderate
browsing, gaming, video streaming, calls and messaging), it lasted not more than
5 days. We admit, this is still a lot more than what most smartphones offer,
but almost half of what the device promises. Then again, you never know, the
manufacturer may be referring to only talk time… or sleep mode. Whatever the
case, it is an interesting solution to a universal issue.
The Oukitel K10000 is currently available from Gearbeast for
USD 239.99, but starts shipping on January 2, 2016.
