Commonwealth Scholarship: Paving a New Path for PhD Students

Instituted by the Nanyang Technological University, the Commonwealth Scholarship is for outstanding international students from Commonwealth countries who are willing to pursue full-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. With this scholarship, motivated individuals will get ample opportunity to conduct work in a rich research-intensive environment to address global challenges.

Who can apply?

Any national from the Commonwealth countries except for Singapore Citizen and Singapore Permanent Residents can apply for this scholarship. The applicant must be a graduate with an undergraduate degree with at least Second Class Honours Upper Division)/Honours (Distinction) or equivalent. The candidate must not be in paid employment or accept paid employment during the prescribed period of the award.

Application procedure

Interested candidates should mention their interest in their application form for admission to the PhD programme. They can apply for this scholarship while filling in the “Application for Scholarship” section in their application form. The first intake for this scholarship will commence from August 2018 onwards.

Award details

As part of the scholarship, the monthly stipend for International PhD students would be S$2,000 and scholars in the PhD program may be eligible for an additional stipend of up to $500 per month upon passing the Ph. D. Qualifying Examination (QE), subject to good performance in research and the attainment of required standards for courses taken.
