Common Mistakes Made By Hauler Trailers

by Luis Jimenez Auto Transport And Manufacturing Business
Most people who are in the business of trailering or own trailers for private use assume that only amateurs can make mistakes when towing. However, even the most experienced haulers can at times make serious blunders that might result in disastrous mishaps. And it can happen due to many reasons, from forgetting some vital detail to using a new tow vehicle which responds differently.

Given below are some common mistakes that haulers make while towing:

Overworking The Engine :

This is perhaps the most common error that people involved with trailering make. Overworking the engine of the tow vehicle can result in a variety of problems. It can cause a meltdown on the roadside and potentially necessitate a new transmission. In order to avoid that, one must always keep an eye on the exhaust gas temperature and the pressure gauges.

Wrongly Set Weight Distribution Bars :

Be it a 4 or 5 car trailer, if the weight distribution bars are not set up properly, the trailer and the vehicle are bound to bounce from one another. It will result in a bumpy ride that can damage both the frame and the hitch. To prevent such problems from happening, the right bar size should be loaded properly.

Poor Brake Control :

Brakes are not only the most critical, but probably the most overlooked components of a trailer. Poor brake control can put the safety of the driver and cargo as well as other vehicles on the road into jeopardy. Before setting off on a journey, it is important to set up the brake control properly and do a thorough inspection for detecting any wear and tear.

Inappropriately Loaded Cargo :

Although it is a matter of common sense, the number of haulers that commit this mistake is quite astounding. Loading cargo improperly can result in swaying of the trailer, which can make the driver lose control of the tow vehicle. It can also lead to uneven weight distribution, or the cargo might fall off during the journey.

Driving With Low Pressure Tires :

Driving with low pressure tires, especially the rear ones of a trailer, can create an extremely dangerous scenario for the entire set up due to uneven wear and tear of the tyres or blowouts from overheating. Before hitching and proceeding, it is important to check the pressure of the tyres carefully.

By avoiding the above mentioned mistakes, one can not only enjoy a safe journey, but also increase the life of the trailer and the tow vehicle.
