College Dorm Idea to Trademarked Brand: How Dylan Sprouse Popularized Mead

by Mohimenul Islam SEO service provider

It was a huge surprise when the Sprouse twins left show business to go to college. Fast forward to the present, most of you may have seen Cole Sprouse acting again in Riverdale, but his twin Dylan, has not been as active. Are you wondering what happened to him? What he’s up to?

Well, the answer to that is mead. Yes, the honey-based alcoholic beverage. Apparently, Dylan Sprouse learned brewing when he was 16 and continued doing so in his dorm room in college. Read more about his college dorm idea that turned him into the successful mead brewer that he is today.

The brief history of mead

Mead is considered to be one of the oldest alcoholic beverages that exist today. Proof of this is in many Norse mythology books, where gods like Odin enjoy mead, to celebrate victory after the war. With proof in ancient texts, it makes mead a drink that has been made for more than 2000 years (or more).

The ancient Greeks would make mead by using fermented rain water and honey, then placing the mixture in front of a hot fireplace for months before finally drinking it. Making mead for them was honoring the goddess Aphrodite, and was also used by seers who would

use it to “see” the future.

The term “honeymoon” was said to be made because of mead, or its benefits to newly married couples. Thousands of years ago, it was a belief that mead helped women with fertility, so a month’s worth of mead (calculated through moon cycles)  was given to the couple after the ceremony, to give them a better chance at producing a child. In a way, mead was magic.

Dylan’s dorm room experiments

When interviewed for several different social media news sites, Dylan always mentions that it started during his collegew days at New York Univarsity (NYU). Since he already learned how to brew mead, he just continued it in college. He mentions experiments and even “explosions” caused by the brewing process.

Nonetheless, after graduation we didn’t hear much about him until 2018—where his trademarked mead business waas published in the news. Everybody was surprised that Mr. Sprouse actually produced really good mead, and soon enough, All-Wise Meadery made lots of sales, making it a business that had the potential to grow.

Now fast-forward to a few years later and All-Wise is still going strong, with people talking about their mead and how good it is. Dylan and his business partner Matt Kwan had one goal in mind—first, to produce high-quality mead and second, to make it popular again.

What makes All-Wise Unique

Compared to other meaderies, what does All-Wise have that other places don’t? Well, let’s just say that Mr. Sprouse and Mr. Kwan had a simple dream, but they had a very strategic plan in reaching their goals, which sets them apart from any other small meadery—or even other businesses.

What they did first was to trademark their name! Their idea wasn’t even launched immediately after they registered, they filed for their first application in 2015, but only launched 3 years later. Most businesses don’t get this strategic advantage. Trademarks ensure your name is yous and can’t be stolen by others.

The All-Wise duo is doing great at business, but they’re doing so much better because they understood that any brand needs protection and as an entrepreneur they just had to file for a trademark before someone else decides to get “All-Wise” as their own brand name, leaving their ideas in the dust and back to square one.
