CNNislands - The media hasn't told too many success stories within this economic crisis. So I thought I had to change the tune a little bit.

During the last couple of weeks, I have been frequenting deprive mall locations in high-end areas. This was partly because I got tired of seeing identical national chain retailers that will repeatedly dominate the scene inside shopping centers. The particular media reports the luck of large chains regularly, and that I wanted to see how the independents were fairing.

CNNislands - There were the usual 'For Lease' and 'Closing Down Sale' signs in one specific suburb, which have become prominent considering the economic crisis. There was also the most common sight of empty retailers, with the predictable two employees standing behind the table waiting for the day to end.

But some of us wonder what amazed me: several stores that were complete together with customers, not of people exploring, but walking out together with shopping bags filled with items.

None of these retailers got a sale on. Curious, I looked at the pricing; the product or service was not cheap (nor has it been expensive). The promoting and ticketing were not 'technically correct' as described by manuals. But you felt relaxed and continuously engaged in the products displayed.

So why were these kinds of stores so busy?

CNNislands - Because they're authentic, they are real. Most of us spend most of the time talking over the concept of unique selling offrande and branding, yet this kind of retailer had built exciting aspects. You could say to these were businesses that like built. You could feel the passion over selecting the product, the way it turned out merchandised, and commitment with the staff. It was like the shop said, "Stuff it! On the web building this business they mean I want to build it".

You walked around the stores the same as was a discovery. The product seemed to be exciting. Customers would acquire the product and enthusiastically indicate it to their shopping mate. We talk about selecting one-of-a-kind product assortments. These sellers had not learned this theory, as they ended up too busy searching the earth for exciting and high-grade products.

CNNislands - The experience was including home-style cooking. Often the meal might not be what a 3-star chef serves, but you are fantastic, have fond memories, and return for more.

Retailers commit so much time copying what exactly others are doing yet have never built a business that means anything to them. Customers can sense your passion.
