FORE School of Management, New Delhi associated with Confederation of Indian Industry as Academic Partner in the 4th CII Clean Tech & Mobility Summit 2018 held on 3 August, 2018 in Noida to discuss different aspects of clean energy, the need of the future. The summit brought industry leaders, government representatives, academics, and researchers on an engaging and knowledge-sharing platform. With the discussion organized under different sessions, the summit tried to answer some pertinent questions through the lively exchange of ideas.

Dr. Jitendra K. Das (Director, FORE School of Management, New Delhi) moderated the session on ‘Indian Electric Vehicles (EV’s) Market Dynamics’. Mr. Awadhesh Kumar Jha (Vice President, Charge & Drive & Sustainability Fortum India), Mr. Neeraj Kumar Singal (Director, Semco Group), Mr. Akshay Kashyap (Managing Director, Greenfuel Energy Solutions Pvt. Ltd.), and Mr. Rahul Juyal (Engineer, Energy Efficiency Solutions Limited) were the panellists for the discussion on the crucial topic. Dr. Das spoke of various environment-friendly transportation options including the ‘Fast Adoption and Manufacturing of E-vehicles in India (FAME)’ scheme that the Government is trying to promote and the challenges they face. He explained: “If any of the players in the equation, from production to consumption, are not happy for whatever reason, then they will find a way to kill a particular idea.”

Mr. Awadhesh Kumar Jha agreed that consumer behaviour is a complicated concept. He drove his point home saying, “With the Indian mindset, consumers won’t buy e-vehicles till they know that they can be used in place of their current vehicles. That’s why we need charging stations for the vehicles first.” Mr. Akshay Kashyap spoke of Tesla as an aspirational rather than a mass product. He added that China has over 21 million electric scooters compared to 50,000 in India. Delving into the reasons for the lack of enthusiasm for e-scooters in India, he shared, “This is a combination of financing issues, the lack of will to adapt to a new product, and limitations of new battery technology." Mr. Neeraj Kumar Singal urged the Government to come up with policies to encourage manufacturing units. Mr. Rahul Juyal sought inspiration from EESL Ujala program for LED bulbs and talked about raising awareness, which is exactly what the Summit managed to do with its thought provoking discussion sessions.

“We at Fore School have been actively championing the cause of clean and sustainable energy. The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) at FORE School was founded in the year 2012 with a vision to shape the innovative solutions to address the challenges of Sustainable Development to business and society. CSD lead and partner with national and international organizations to document, research, build capacity and penetrate knowledge having impact on social, economic and environment aspects of business, society and public policy”, said Dr. Das, later.
