by Pallavi Goswami content writer

We all love to add a few dollops of ghee in our diet as it is extremely healthy and tasty. The dairy staple originated in India where it is known as ghee. But ghee is worldwide popular in the name of clarified butter. You must be thinking about what are the differences between the two? Clarified butter vs ghee is all about the basic understanding of the two.

It's true that ghee and clarified butter are the same and made from the same dairy butter. But both are different colors and textures. In terms of nutrition and calories both are the same. Both are dairy products offering a high smoke point. The main difference between ghee and clarified butter is the making process. Clarified butter is made by melting butter and once the milk solids are separated they are strained, leaving behind the clear butterfat.

But for ghee, the milk solids are not removed. Following the same process the butter is boiled with the milk solids, until they become caramelized and brown in color. Due to the caramelization, ghee offers a nutty, toasted aroma. Some people prefer the taste of ghee while some love to have clarified butter. This was in brief about clarified butter vs ghee.
