Choosing the Right Pallet Rack for Your Warehouse

by A.T.B. Material Handling The TRUSTED Source For All Your Warehouse Storage

Maximizing the efficiency of your warehouse is important so that you are able to move product and store items that will allow your business to succeed. The layout of your warehouse is the first step toward reaching your goals, and choosing the right pallet rack will greatly assist you in the process. According to an article in The New York Times, the warehousing industry is expanding in Southern California, which is resulting in a greater amount of products and business for warehouses. By understanding your unique needs and matching those requirements with the perfect style of pallet racks, you will instantly improve efficiency and get the most out of your storage space.

1.      Selective Pallet Rack

A selective pallet rack offers you the greatest flexibility when it comes to your warehouse. You will always be able to access every pallet in your warehouse so you can get the items you need at any time. However, this solution requires more aisle room for your forklifts and other equipment to navigate, and you will not be able to store as many items. Selective racks are great if you have fast-moving product and need the best access available.

2.      Drive-In Pallet Rack

A drive-in rack effectively gives you more storage space, as you are able to stack multiple racks together. The result is a loss of immediate access, since items that are put in last will be the first to be removed. On the bright side, your warehouse will have greater product density, and you can store items that have a longer storage life without a problem.

3.      Push Back Rack

A push back rack offers ultimate product density and is only limited by the size of your warehouse. These work by using the “first-in, first-out” approach and are extremely advantageous when working with perishable items or products that are time sensitive.

4.      Flow Rack

A flow rack is similar to a push back rack in that it allows you to easily access product that needs to be moved. As the name suggests, flow racks are designed so that when items are removed, the products behind will flow to the front. These racks are loaded from one side, with the cartons or pallets flowing to the opposite end.

5.      Carpet and Drum Storage Racks

In addition to standard boxes and flat containers, you may also have the need to store irregular items such as carpeting or drums. Buying these types of racks will allow you to easily store and categorize these products so that they are accessible when you need, without taking up valuable space from other pallets.

Used pallet racking will enable you to get the racks you need for your warehouse at a lower cost, without sacrificing on quality and integrity. This way you will be able to maximize the storage space in your warehouse and increase efficiency so that you can continue to grow your business.
