Children Rights That You Should Know and Protect
India is a rich country blessed with ample
of natural resources and ample of opportunities. To utilize them, the country
is also equipped with huge workforce of skilled people. Although India is
growing at a rapid pace and embracing modern values, there exist several
malpractices in the society.
Government of India has taken several
measures to protect the rights of communities, women and children. Measures
have been implemented against people who have been breaking them. Yet there are
cases of injustice and crime being done against children, who are the most
sensitive of all the country’s population.
The Indian Government has declared several
rights for children and has implemented several policies for nurturing their
sound growth. However, many of the activists and people like you may not be aware
of all the rights granted to the children. Being unaware of these rights, you
may not be able to stand up against injustice, or in the worst case, not
perceive it. Also, many government bodies and social organization hold up a
single issue of Child labour.
These organizations have been actively
attacking people and individuals who force child
work in the society. However, they have not been able to fight
against all the other atrocities committed against children. Before you support
any of the social welfare groups to protect child rights, kindly try to learn
about all the child rights that exist.
The Indian Government has held up all the
rights declared by the United Nations for Children at a convention in 1992.
According to this convention, all the fundamental rights are vested to children
since birth.
The first of all rights is the Right to
Survival. This right speaks of nurturing life, health, child nutrition,
identity of the children and their nationality. Following it is the Right to
Development. This right speaks of encouraging education, care, leisure,
recreation and all other cultural activities that foster child’s development.
One of the important rights is the Right to
Protection. It states that children are to be protected against exploitation,
abuse or neglect under any circumstances. United Nations have also presented
the Right to Participation, which gives each and every child has the right to
express. Under this right, he can retrieve information, express thoughts and
implement creative ideas.
All these rights have been held by the
United Nations and the Indian Government to compel the overall growth and
development of children. Still, many social bodies and welfare activists are
not aware of them completely. So, why not take a stand to spread awareness
about them?
