Chi Raq Amazon Prime Subscribers

The streaming service providers are upping their game in the industry to sideline the traditional TV business owners. Ever since Netflix took the charge and established a proper platform for internet TV, companies like Amazon Inc. and Hulu introduced their services as well. Amazon is now one of the biggest platforms for streaming purposes. Its Prime membership offers free two day shipping on millions of products on the online marketplace along with free access to its streaming service. It charges $99 for one year.

Along with Netflix, Amazon plans to increase its original programming content as well in the future. The company does not have a broad portfolio of original programming as that of Netflix but it has plans to produce a lot more. The online retailer recently worked on its first ever originally produced movie named Chi-Raq which featured in the theaters from December 4 onwards. Prior to its initial release, the firm announced that it will release all of its films, including Chi-Raq, at a fast pace for home viewing if compared to normal studios.

The Verge reported that Amazon has announced to make Chi-Raq available for streaming purposes from February 4 for streaming. Chi-Raq will be the first original movie on Amazon Video and the best part is that all Amazon Prime subscribers get to stream it for free. The video stream of the movie will be out right after a short span of two months.

According to The Verge, “Before it's available to stream for free — well, at no additional cost to people already paying for Prime — Chi-Raq is also being made available for digital purchase and rental, both starting yesterday.” Apart from this, the movie is available for buy and rent both at iTunes and Google Play as well as DVD. The Blu-Ray is expected to come out later this month. Therefore it is not like that the movie is only limited to Amazon and its online marketplace and streaming service.

It is strange that Chi-Raq is available one way or another almost everywhere but the e-commerce giant is making its Prime subscribers wait one more month. However it is believed that such move will allow the firm to improve its traditional revenue streams. Regardless of the wait Prime members have to do for this movie, Amazon is still giving it out much earlier than any other movie. The only movies that hit the theaters as well as the torrent normally around the same time are Netflix releases or ‘tiny indies’.
