Chemicals For Cleaning RO Membrane

by Sanjeev Yadav SEO Consultant

RO membrane filtration is a technique of cleaning the impure water. By following this technique, the water can be used for different purposes because it removes all virtually visible particles effortlessly. However, substances like phosphates, nitrates, and metal ions that are dissolved in water cannot be removed using membrane filtration. In order to clean the water effortlessly, RO membrane cleaning chemicals should be used. These chemicals have a potential of removing various dissolved elements. The industries use the RO membrane cleaning chemicals and remove the dissolved impurities in water to make it fit for drinking.

Why Is Membrane Cleaning Chemical Preferred?

This is a common question that is countered by almost every RO membrane cleaning chemical supplier. The answer to this isn’t a new formula. People prefer using membrane cleaning chemicals because they’re affordable and do not consume time during the cleaning process. There are two types of membrane cleaning chemicals that are preferred on a major scale.

  • Gramicid 121

Gramicid 121 is an alkaline-based descalant. It is created by fusing cleaners to remove impurities like carbonate, metal oxide, and sulfate scales of barium, strontium, and calcium. It is also useful in the removal of the dead biological waste in RO systems. Gramicid 121 is effective in the pH range of 10-13.

  • Gramicid 122

Gramicid 122 is an acid-based descalant. It is a formation of the low scale pH liquid and is used for removing carbonate, metal hydroxides, and sulfate scales of strontium. Gramicid 122 also removes the microorganism present in water and is effective in the pH range of 1-2.

What If You Do Not Clean RO Membranes?

There’s no rocket science in this. The prime purpose of an RO membrane is to purify water by removing different impurities present. It runs continuously for removing impurities and at a point in time, it stops working due to the accumulation of dust particles and metallic elements. This results in the supply of impure water. Therefore, to maintain the RO membrane and keep in a working condition, the membrane cleaning chemical should be used. The chemicals like Gramicid 121 (alkaline-based) and Gramicid 122 (acid-based) are the descalants that remove the accumulated particles on the membrane swiftly.

The RO membranes play a key role in separating impurities from water and make it fit for drinking. However, membranes should be cleaned at regular intervals so that they can function smoothly for a longer period of time.
