The change in the consumer’s lifestyle is causing an increase in the demand for sportswear. Since 2008 there has been a 29 percent rise in yoga practice. There are also different kinds of dance, yoga and ballet classes as an alternative to the traditional exercises.

Advances in technology have resulted in better quality fabrics and street wear has also shifted to a more casual look now.Active wear is now worn in day to day life. Since 2013, studies have shown that there has been a 38% increase in the mention of sportswear in January and a 45 % increase in February!

In the past the sportswear was only made of cotton but now, as the trend is changing, polyester fabric is being used as well. It is designed to be friendly for every skin type and gives flexibility to the players in the field. Uniforms made of this fabric gives players the freedom to run, jump and move around easily. This is why now; more sportswear is being made using polyester.

The role of technology in designing sportswear

The growth and improvement in computer technology has transformed the apparel industry. Various softwares are being used by manufacturers to make designs and patterns which hold a lot of appeal for the clients. Compared to the previous years, now sportswear is available in a variety of different colors and designs. The evolution of the textile industry has also played an important role in meeting the increasing need of up to date and fashionable sportswear.

Market Sales statistics

In 2016, according to figures from the research firm Euromonitor, sales rose by 3.8% to $1.67 trillion which was impressive despite the economic turmoil. The sale of items such as yoga pants and activewear outperformed other sports apparel with an increase of 7%. Sports inspired apparel grew 6% and footwear increased by 10% because of the growing demand of casual sneakers. Sales come from emerging markets including US, India, Thailand and China
