by Sanjay Joshi SEO
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliates all Kendriya Vidyalayas, all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, private schools and schools recognized by Central Government of India. Set up in 1962, the board conducts examination in spring every year for grades 10 and 12. There are 8,838 CBSE schools in India. The board lays more emphasis on stress-free way of learning in schools. The board also conducts AIEEE examination for admission to various undergraduate courses in engineering and architecture spread over India. It also conducts AIPMT (All India Pre Medical Test) for admission to major medical colleges in India.

The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) is an examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations. The board came into existence in 1958.The board was set up by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate with sole aim to redefine and adapt to the educational needs of the country. The most powerful mechanism, education can control the country. Keeping this in mind, the council was set up to promote literature, science, fine arts and other knowledge by conducting school examination through English medium. The board is non-profit and non-governmental education board in India.  The board of ICSE is committed to educational excellence and quality education in all spheres.

CBSE vs. ICSE schools

The two boards are very different from each other. The boards differ in exam pattern, course curriculum, teaching methods and so on. Although, both the boards are self-financing, CBSE board is recognized by Government of India. Though, the certificates issued by both the boards are valid globally, CBSE has greater value. Another thing is that there are not many ICSE schools in India.

The ICSE board is tougher and the children are stocked with books most of the time. English is good in ICSE but the board is not as realistic as CBSE. There are two papers for English in ICSE whereas there is only one paper in CBSE. Also, History and Geography is clubbed into one paper as Social Science in CBSE. There are three separate papers for Physics, Chemistry and Biology in ICSE whereas CBSE has one sciences paper. The course content of CBSE matches more closely to engineering/medical entrance exams and other competitive exams.

CBSE board gives enough time for children to relax and indulge in co-curricular activities like sports, elocution, debates, music, etc. CBSE encourages grading system as opposed to marking system so as to lesser the burden on students.  CBSE schools allow both regular and private candidates to appear in the examination. ICSE board does not allow private candidate to take the exam. In ICSE on assessments and theoretical education are vital. CBSE lays more emphasis on lab work.

Children are the future. They are citizens of tomorrow and its imperative they contribute positively to the society. Education is not a burden it is a learning process to be enjoyed. CBSE or ICSE schools the choice depends on the availability and needs of a person.
