Causes of abdominal pain during pregnancy

by Pooja Chauhan Freelance Professional

Non-serious causes of abdominal pain:

The pregnant woman may feel pain in the abdomen, or other similar normal things that will be mentioned as:

1. Increase the size of the uterus

With the increase in pregnancy age and the passage of days and months, the uterus presses the internal organs and moves them a little bit of their natural place, especially the intestines, causing a feeling of nausea or constriction in the abdomen.

The solution here is that the pregnant woman eats several small meals during the day, and empties the bladder whenever needed and rest more during the day.

2. Pregnant belly became more solid

During pregnancy and with the expansion of the uterus, the large circular ligaments in the abdominal area expand and move to the uterus and from there to the pelvic area

This pain usually begins in the second trimester and disappears without medical intervention in normal cases.

3. Constipation and gases

Puff, gas and constipation are a common complication of pregnancy. Progesterone, which rises during pregnancy, reduces the digestive speed of the digestive system, reducing the speed of food transmission.

Pregnant women are advised to drink adequate amounts of water daily and to eat food rich in fibers regularly to avoid constipation.

4. Braxton contractions

Braxton contractions are unrelated to the expansion of the cervix, and although they may be very troublesome, they are not serious.

If the pain persists and does not stop or if the pregnant woman feels strong cramps or if there is bleeding, the pregnant woman should see the doctor immediately.

Serious causes of abdominal pain

1. Ectopic pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy occurs when an ovum is implanted in a place out the uterus, often in a fallopian tube. Although not a common condition, it causes severe pain and bleeding between 6-10 weeks of pregnancy, with the size of the tube increasing.

2. Abortion

If the pregnant woman feels abdominal pain during the first trimester of pregnancy, this may be a serious indication; it is possible to get an abortion.

3. Premature birth

If the pregnant woman begins to feel pain and contractions before the 37th week of pregnancy, with persistent pain in the back, the reason may be early labor and delivery.

4. Early separation of the placenta

Placenta is the source of fetus for food and oxygen, usually related to the upper area of the uterus. It is separated after the baby is born, but in rare cases the placenta may separate from the uterus during the third trimester.

5. Eclampsia

Women may get eclampsia after 20 weeks of pregnancy, which is why the doctor checks the blood pressure of the pregnant woman and the uterine proteins at each visit.
