Caring for Your Artificial Grass

Heavy foot traffic can cause unwanted matting to your beautifully laid artificial grass. To prevent matting, regularly brush your turf once a month or three to four times a week. Purchase a good stiff broom and brush against the artificial fibers. This process, known as cross-brushing, will help your grass stay in an upright position. Keep in mind, using a brush with metal bristles will damage your lawn. So always brush with a broom that has synthetic bristles.

Artificial turf has a membrane backing that prevents weeds and plants from growing through the material. This backing is one of the added benefits of switching to artificial grass. That said, weeds have a way of appearing from time to time. To combat this problem, use a water-based weed killer to make the weeds go away. You can also use a rake or leaf blower to remove debris like leaves and branches.

Sometimes a spill or pet accident can happen on your artificial lawn. Fortunately, cleaning up stains is relatively easy to do. Just wipe the mess away with lukewarm water. And for harder to clean stains, mix your water with soap and vinegar and scrub the infected area. That said, the quicker you wipe up the spill, the easier it is to remove.
