Canada Student Visa Requirement

A “study permit” is required by international students to study in Canada. Aside from the student permit, eTA (temporary resident visa or an electronic travel authorization) is also required. ETA is basically required by the students to gain access to Canada. eTA and student visa will be asked by the educational institute and concerned authorities after you have applied for the Canada study permit.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for a Canada study permit, the student must furnish the following.

Enrollment letter from the Canadian university.
Proof of funds for living, tuition, travel, etc.
The student must have no criminal records.
Medical test results to certify sound health and fitness.
Proofs that you will leave Canada after your studies are complete.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

Different rules are in place for students from different countries. Showing the acceptance letter and passport is absolutely necessary. Proofs of funds for living, tuition, travel, etc. are also required. You may be asked to submit photographs and fingerprints but this largely depends on the region you stay in.

A clean criminal record is absolutely necessary. You may be denied the study permit if you have a criminal record or cannot provide proof of clean criminal record upon demand. Bank statement, payment receipt of tuition fee, and accommodation are proofs that you can support your stay in Canada. Also, you must show access to CAD 10,000 per year of stay.

APPLICATION:

At first, you will be required to apply online on the CIC website for the study permit. You have to create an account where you have to submit all the documents for the initial screening of the application. Keep a debit/credit card, scanner, and webcam ready for quick payment and uploading documents.

COST OF THE CANADIAN STUDY PERMIT:

CAD 150 is the base price. If you are asked to upload biometric information such as photograph and fingerprints, an additional charge of CAD 85 will be levied. However, you will be presented with a total amount at the time of final payment.

WHAT TO DO AFTER APPLICATION APPROVAL:

Temporary residence via and letter of introduction are proofs that your application has been approved. You need to keep these handy when you reach Canada to show to the border control. Also, a passport is an absolute necessity. Make sure you have originals of all the documents handy. If the border control is satisfied, you will be allowed to enter the country with a study permit.

STAY IN CANADA:

Students can stay in Canada for the entire duration of the course. After the course is complete, students get a 90 day stay back period during which they can or a post-graduation work permit. WORK DURING STUDY

Students are allowed to work on campus in Canada. To work outside of the campus, a Social Insurance Number is required which is issued depending on the study permit.
