I have not found any evidence to support the claim that you can lose weight with magnesium. It does not appear to be that elusive wonder pill that so many people seem to be searching for. Rather than focus on whether you can or cannot lose weight with magnesium, change the emphasis to foods that will support and nourish your body.

 

There are many health claims associated with this mineral such as lowering the risk of heart disease and stroke, helping prevent diabetes and strengthening bones. I think you must give up the idea that you can lose weight with a magnesium supplement. However, don’t forget about this vital mineral when looking at foods which will support you in losing weight. This mineral is involved in lots of vital tasks in the body including energy production, the functioning of the heart, nerves and muscles as well as bone health and the clotting of blood so you must ensure that you are getting enough.

 

Foods rich in magnesium such as whole grains, nuts, beans, seeds, fish, avocados and dark leafy vegetables are an essential part of any healthy, well balanced eating program. Forget “dieting” and go for foods that will give your body the nutrients it needs and keep your blood sugar level balanced throughout the day. Why not take the opportunity to learn about the glycemic load of foods? It will help you work out an eating plan that is sustainable long term.
