Can Yoga Help Me Achieve My New Year's Fitness Goalsby Neighborhood Trainers Finding a trainer is a personal choice
It's the New Year and of course, you've got good intentions. This is going to be the year where you a) lose those extra pounds, b) run the ultra-marathon, c) become the body builder you always intended or d) all the above. This is the time of year when we do have the very best of intentions, but we also slightly know they are good intentions and they might not make it beyond the end of the first week.
If you're fed up with making the promises and having the resolutions and then seeing your hopes turn to dust in front of your eyes, perhaps it is time for a new approach. Maybe before you set off on the ultra without getting through the regular 26.2 first.
Yoga Brooklyn might just be the route you need to get fit this new year. The thing with yoga is it seems easy to do when you kick-off, but the longer you go, the more you realize you're not getting it at all. It has so many layers and such a range of nuances that you can - and they do - spend an entire lifetime getting to average.
But, remember, you're not going to Yoga Manhattan to become enlightened, you're going to reach your fitness goals. This means quite simply that as long as you're getting better - then you really don't need to do anything else.
Yoga is about breath and muscles and stretching and taking poses with the aim of flexibility, calm and then becoming just that bit better. it is a perfect metaphor for the goals of the New Year. Think about it for a moment, you start with something you can do, perhaps not terribly well. But slowly over time and with a little persistence, you get better and better. Suddenly you find that you are one of the ones who can do a headstand or even pigeon (look them up - you'll be amazed). It sneaked up on you, without having any pre-determined intentions you have graduated to be the person everyone looks at during class.
So, yes, if you want to achieve your fitness goals you could do a lot worse than heading off to a yoga class and fighting down slight nausea when you realize you've bitten off more than your expected. In 2020 you need to have a bit of vision, yoga is the cognoscenti do it.
