fever, Zika virus etc. that are transmitted by mosquitoes. Millions of people
die due to diseases caused by mosquitoes. They not only carry but also transmit
several diseases and parasites that other organisms are affected with.
5 Deadly Mosquito-borne illnesses:

Malaria - Malaria is one of the most
common mosquito-borne diseases. The symptom of malaria is very much similar to flu
which makes it difficult to get diagnosed. A vaccine has been found, but is not
recommended by WHO due to its low efficacy.

Chikungunya - This disease is not
deadly, however, its symptoms are quite painful. A Chikungunya patient suffers
from muscle pain, fever, joints pain as well as swelling and headaches. Senior
citizens, babies and diabetic patients are the ones who are most affected by
this disease.

Yellow Fever - There is no cure for
this disease. However, there are vaccines available. The symptoms for yellow
fever are headaches, muscle and joint pain, fever with chills. It takes time to
diagnose the disease as the effects can be seen after 3-6 days.

Zika Virus - Zika Virus is spread by
Aedes aegypti mosquito but it can also be spread sexually. The Aedes aegypti mosquitoes
are aggressive biters which are found during daytime. To protect yourself from
this disease, you need to cover yourself to avoid mosquito bite and reapply
repellent regularly. There is no cure, treatment or vaccine for this disease
which is why travelers and pregnant women are advised to avoid traveling to the
affected countries.

Dengue - Dengue is one of the most
infectious diseases that are transmitted by mosquitoes. The symptoms of dengue
is similar to a flu, and include headache, fever, back and joint paint, rashes
and eye pain. Like many other viral diseases, dengue too doesn’t have any cure
but doctors recommend acetaminophen with plenty of fluids. People recover
within 1 to 2 weeks of proper medical treatment.
How to Avoid Mosquitoes?
There are various chemical and home-remedies to get rid of
mosquitoes. Here is a list of few ways to help mosquitoes stay away from you.

Some people believe that rubbing apple cider
directly on the skin helps in avoiding mosquito bite. Consumption of apple
cider vinegar creates a body odor which repels insects like mosquitoes and
black flies.

Lemon Eucalyptus Oil is recommended to repel
mosquitoes.
·
Consumption of garlic is also known for
repelling mosquitoes.
·
DEET Repellent can also be used to repel
mosquitoes but the only thing on needs to take care about is that it should not
contain DEET more than 25%.

Plants like basil, marigold, and coriander etc.
should be planted to avoid mosquitoes from coming near you.
Apart from these entire measures
one can also reduce mosquito breeding around their home. Mosquitoes lay eggs on
standing water, drains, swimming pool, and ornamental pool. To reduce the
breeding, the first important thing that you need to do is to remove all the
stagnant water around you. Mosquito egg needs water to hatch but some
mosquitoes lay on moist soil, so it is very important to keep your surrounding
dry to avoid breeding. Another important thing that one needs to do is to
remove the dense bushes around you. It is the best hideout spot for mosquitoes
during the day time. Remove all the decaying elements that fall off your trees
in the yard and keep it in closed container until disposal.
