Can Microsoft Surface Compete with Apple iPad?

Finally, Microsoft released its own tablet product The Surface! In the tablet world, there were always either ipad or android tablet, now customers get a third option, with Microsoft’s brand new operating system Windows 8. So do you think Surface could take ipad down?

 

For Microsoft, Surface is not just a simple tablet product, it is also a great windows 8 holder. Surface comes in 2 variants: Surface and Surface Pro. Surface is a low cost tablet aimed at Apple iPad while the Surface Pro is a full-powered tablet with windows 8 OS. Surface Pro can not only run the touch optimized apps, but all Windows-based applications as well.

 

Apple ipad has been always using iOS since the day it came out, and now Apple’s operating system has been upgraded to iOS 6. Since all the ipad products are using ios, the market share of ios is quite big already. Unlike Apple ios, windows os already has overwhelming market shares on the computer market. But now it’s temporarily new to tablet market, windows 8 is designed to be compatible with portable devices like tablet and smartphones, and also compatible for traditional pcs and laptops. One thing can be sure is that windows 8 tablet would definitely attract some customers no matter how the tablet device is.

 

Now let’s see the surface tablet. This tablet comes with a thin cover that designed with keyboard. Although it looks a little funny because it’s much like a laptop upside down, the keyboard case actually has some functions. It could be used as a keyboard obviously, and it can be used as a case to protect your tablet screen. So it’s kind of saving your some tablet accessories. For ipad, you have to pay extra money for its smart cover and there’re no ipad parts like keyboard or something. You need to buy Apple ipad accessories alone.

 

However, since surface is Microsoft’s first tablet, and windows 8 the first os for tablet, there’re some chances that users don’t like it. Remember windows vista os? Even with so many years experience of pc operating systems, even with so many users and fans all over the globe, windows vista didn’t satisfy the users and disappointed the world. Now that it’s Microsoft’s first attempt, let’s not hold the expectations too high.
