Can I Return My Car to The Dealer?

by Andrew Richardson allenstewart

Buying a car is always a big commitment. Often, we don't have the time to do the research necessary to make sure we're making an educated decision about what type of vehicle is best for us and that we're getting it at the best possible price.

That's why it's important to research the dealer before handing over a check thoroughly. Unfortunately, dishonest dealers are known to reap huge profits on the uninformed consumer through aggressive sales practices, deceptive advertising and deceptive financing terms.

Here are some red flags you should look for when purchasing a car from a dealership:

* Lack of paper or digital contracts: Many consumers end up in situations where they purchase a vehicle without any sort of contract.

The contract is the most important part of any vehicle purchase, so if the dealer does not offer one, back away and seek another dealer.

* Illegal add-ons: Some dealers will try to tack on additional purchases or services after you have already committed to the purchase.

If you notice you're signing for items that weren't negotiated before, stop to review them with the salesperson and walk away if necessary.

*Significant mechanical defects: Many buyers may not realize that they would be buying a lemon law car. So it is worth the effort to check the car for any defect that can turn the vehicle into a lemon car.

You can take an experienced mechanic who will run a trained eye on the engine health, the safety accessories, and the general drivability of the car.

So, can I return my car to the dealer within 30 days?

Well, dealerships often throw in a lot of goodies to sweeten the overall car purchase process. One such offering is a customer-centric returns policy. The returns policy outlines the conditions under which you can return the car back and have your money refunded.

Under this, the dealership accepts to take back the car within a certain number of days from the purchase of the car. But make sure that as a buyer, you check for two key things here -

1 - the number of days allowed -

When you think, "can I return my car to the dealer within 30 days"? It is essential to note that not all dealerships offer the same duration. Some may offer 20 days, or some may offer 45 days. So, make sure to check your sale agreement thoroughly.

2 - the condition under which you can return the car -

Some buyers may return a car simply because they didn't like the paint. Not all dealerships will agree to this condition. Hence, check under what conditions can you return the car.

When you factor in these points, you ensure a pleasant car buying experience. You will be unlikely to end up buying a lemon law car.
