Can door finger guards actually prevent finger injuries?

by Safety Assured Find Best Door Safety Products

It is now an established practice to install finger guards on doors in commercial facilities all around the U.K. These facilities may include day care centres, schools, cafes, libraries, shopping malls, workplaces, etc. But, are these door finger guards all that useful in providing protection against finger trap injuries?

In short, yes, they are! See, whenever a door closes, there are three primary trapping points – the latch, the hinge, and the hinge cavity. When it comes to the latch, it is pretty easy to lower the extent of risk around this area with the simple use of self-closing devices or foam bumpers. The hinge area, on the other hand, is high-risk. An opening door creates a glaring opening in the hinge cavity as well as on the hinge pin side. This gap is wide, wide enough for fingers to be poked through and get caught in between the door and its frame. Door finger guards, though, can easily fill in this gap, eliminating the risks of an injury in every respect.

As you might have guessed, children are at the highest risk of door-related finger injuries. Hence, door finger guards should be installed in nurseries, indoor play areas and also in primary and elementary schools all around the U.K.

Despite what they offer, door finger guards for schools are not expensive at all. As a matter of fact, you can pick up a good quality finger guard between £16-25 very easily.
