California Plastic Ban Proponents Release Rap Video to Appeal to Voters
In California, things are heating up between those who want to ban plastic bags in the state, and those who don’t. But the people fighting for the ban just did something no one else has ever done: they released a rap video so voters could hear their message in a way that they hope, will stick in their heads.
The ad was paid for by the Northern California Recycling Association and pictures a long line of plastic bags that are walking down the beach. The rap song includes clever lyrics such as “The planet is in trouble, ban the bags, nature needs our help, ban the bags, the ocean is suffocating, ban the bags, Prop 67, Prop 67.”
“This is just a sign of what’s going on in in our nation,” says a spokesman from MJH Innovations, a seller of goods that are good for the environment, including reusable shopping bags. “And as people learn about the tragic effects disposable plastic bags are having on our environment, they are turning to alternatives in droves.”
He’s right. The use of reusable shopping bags is increasing more and more as consumers are either forced to quit relying on them because they’ve been banned in their town or city, or because they’ve heard about the negative impact they’re having on the environment. Either way, plastic pollution seems to on the decrease.
“Just imagine if every family began carrying reusable shopping bags every time they bought groceries, it would eliminate 1,500 plastic bags per year. Multiply that by all the families across American, and it represents a substantial reduction in waste.”
