Learn How to Cope with Health Issues

These meetings are intended to provide support for prostate cancer warriors in and near Calgary, Alberta, as well as their wives and caregivers, on their healing journeys. Each meeting features healthcare specialists who speak on topics of discussion that can help patients, survivors, and their loved ones in dealing with health issues.

February's Theme: Tai Chi for Prevention & Survival

At the upcoming February 2024 meeting, you'll hear epidemiologist and health sciences professor Dr. Lin Yang discuss how you can use energy-balancing practices like tai chi for prevention and survival.

Dr. Yang has a background in kinesiology, statistics, and cancer prevention and control. She has studied the impacts of obesity and physical activity on cancer risk and outcomes in survivors. The goal of her research is to clarify the biology and psychology of energy balance and cancer to help create personalized, scalable interventions. If you're interested in how physical activity and energy practices can help you with prevention or survivorship, then you won't want to miss her talk!

More Research Awareness Is Needed

According to the Journal of Clinical Oncology, prostate cancer is the most widespread disease amongst Canadian men. Although Canadian health research remains strong, with prominent academic centers in every province and territory, the impact of academic prostate cancer research is not well known.

PROSTAID Calgary’s general meetings aim to ensure the healing benefits of such research are communicated to warriors and caregivers like you who are most impacted by them and who care about them most. These meetings offer a space where you can learn from medical guest speakers' reports about new developments in prostate cancer detection, testing, and treatment.

Besides the general monthly meeting, you can also attend two informal monthly meetings for warriors and their wives and caregivers, respectively. These more specialized meetings offer networking and personal support opportunities. You can learn from others' experiences in managing advanced stages of the disease and inquire about access to clinical trials.
