Build mining rig on a $1,000-$2,000 budget

by Evon Walker Technical Reviewer

When it comes to investing more than 1000$ in mining, you need to do some deeper research in what you are actually investing your money in. Questions you should ask are, what is a blockchain, what is a cryptocurrency, and what are the benefits and flaws of mining?

For those who have done the research or already have the knowledge about the topic, we assembled a mining rig for the 1000-2000$ budget. If you are looking to get higher Hash rates you need to be ready to invest more than a classic gaming PC. We base our advice on advice from many reliable miners out there who already have mining rigs with over 30,000$ worth of gear.

New technology influences mining a lot because cryptocurrency is flooding the world at a fast rate and tech companies are using the advantages of creating gear that will have the best use in mining. That brings us to the first component and the most important one, GPU. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB [Amazon]  is one of the top 5 mining GPUs that you can use for a certain budget. For your mining rig, you should get 3 GPUs that go around 300$ per GPU. You always need to know what coin you actually want to mine because the difference in efficiency is a thing. This was not really designed to do Ethereum mining but it does very well at Z cache mining. If you want to compare it with Ethereum it does about 20 Mh/s per GPU. Unless you have really good Samsung memory in them, these don’t have that, you should stick to mining Z cache. Don’t worry much about the currency, every currency we talk about here has a promising future and you can always exchange for a different one.

With these combined, we are using EVGA 1000 GQ Gold 80+ [Newegg] power supply. EVGA 1000 GQ is pretty standard in the mining world it is very silent, the semi-modular design allows you to only use cables you need, helping to improve case airflow. As we know good airflow is a must so your setup doesn’t get overheated. We would need 1 EVGA 1000 GQ that goes around 170$ US. Next up is the motherboard, and the one we advise you to get is ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ Mining Motherboard [Amazon]. H110 Pro BTC+ is specifically designed for cryptocurrency mining. The 13 onboard PCIe slots guarantee fast GPU mining while additional power connectors provide advanced system stability while mining. It is ready to start, that means you don’t need to do any additional bios setup to enable multi GPU mining.  H110 Pro BTC+ goes around 320$ US. For the processor, we would need something stronger than standard Intel G3900, and go with stronger Intel Pentium G4400 [Amazon]. It is a dual-core processor that can handle 2 threads at a time at 3.3GHz with a TDP of 54W. The Intel Pentium G4400 includes a basic CPU cooler that is designed to keep the processor running within its thermal tolerance. This processor goes for 60$ US on Amazon. HyperX FURY 8GB 2400MHz (2x4GB) [Amazon] should work great with our set up, with automatic overclocking it reaches faster speeds and higher capacities just by installing the memory, no adjustments in BIOS needed. It is a great 100$ investment that will be in great use for our mining rig. Experienced miners know that you don’t large memory capacity for mining but fast memory performance.  Silicon Power 120GB SSD [Amazon] is a great choice that has great energy efficiency and high endurance. It has a sequential read/write performance that goes up to 550 MB/s and 420MB/s. Why we chose SSD instead of HDD is extremely faster boot-up, when it comes to rebooting its best thing you can have. Next, we need some Ver006C PCI-E Risers [Amazon] graphics card extension cable. It provides a super stable and safe connection meant for mining. It gives 5Gbps max data transmission. For 25$ you can get a 3 pack of PCI Risers. The prices on Amazon fluctuate, but you should be able to get all of this for around $1500 – $1600. If you want you can make your own custom frame. Parts will cost you like 20$, or you can just use a milk crate. If you are too lazy or just want to be professional, a mining case is about 190$. With this set, you are basically on the way for a great mining career and the only thing that you need to add from time to time is more graphics cards for more performance and after 6 GPUs a great move is to get 1 more EVGA 1000 GQ power supply. Mining rig like this should get your ROI(return on investment) in about 5months.

A budget of 2000$ is a good way to start on your mining empire. You always need to be focused on what you are doing and do research daily. No one knows will the cryptocurrency era stop in the close future, but if you don’t try to make it you will for sure lose. There is also some ready to use miners available on the market like z11 antminer, it is profitable and cheap if compare with profits you can fount at thecryptomining.
