Bromley HVAC Contractor Installs Energy-Efficient Ground Source Heat Pumps

by PRC Agency PR

If your heating system is so old it’s from the Ice Age, it’s time for a change. Heat pumps are the hottest eco-friendly HVAC tech of the future – literally! In fact, they can decrease household carbon dioxide emissions by about 40%. Now that’s a system that will greet you with a warm welcome when you’re home from work!

What type of heat pump should you choose?

During an initial consultation, the company’s experts will help you choose the right system based on your home size, insulation, heating infrastructure, budget, and desired energy efficiency.

NCC South East Ltd installs 3 types of systems:

Air-to-air heat pumps

Air source heat pumps are the most common type installed in the UK. They extract heat from the outside air to heat your home. Air-to-air heat pumps, which are up to 500% efficient, are a cost-effective option for spaces up to 120 square metres. Their additional benefit is that they also act as air purifiers, filtering out allergens and dust without drying out the air.

Air-to-water heat pumps

Air-to-water heat pumps are up to 300% efficient and have a built-in hot water cylinder, which can replace a traditional boiler. These pumps are particularly suitable for homes with underfloor heating, as they work at lower temperatures.

Ground source heat pumps

GSHP systems work by circulating a fluid (usually water or a mixture of water and antifreeze) through a loop of pipes buried underground. As the fluid circulates through the loop, it absorbs heat from the ground in winter and transfers it to your home. As underground temperature remains constant throughout the year, GSHP system efficiency can reach 400%. However, these systems tend to be more expensive.

What government incentives are available for heat pump installation?

If you decide to replace a fossil fuel heating system with a heat pump, you may qualify for government grants which will partially offset installation costs. Under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you may receive:

  • £7,500 towards an air source heat pump
  • £7,500 towards a ground source heat pump (including water source heat pumps and those on shared ground loops)
  • £5,000 towards a biomass boiler

To be eligible for the program, your system should have a maximum capacity of less than 45kWth.
