Broccoli’s Battery of Brilliant Benefits

by John Smith Learner

As kids, we were often told to eat our veggies – and broccoli was usually on that plate. Many kids, however, dislike broccoli, and while most of us outgrow our distaste, there are still many adults who prefer not to include this particular vegetable as part of their diet.

If you’re one of those people who dislike broccoli, it might be time to reconsider, though, as adding a dose of this vegetable to your plate could result in a wide variety of health benefits. For one, broccoli is a great source of Vitamin C, which helps to boost your general immunity and can protect you against anything from catching a cold to developing more serious conditions like scurvy. For another, broccoli contains fibre, which is key for ensuring optimum gut health.

This little vegetable has further been found to assist with slowing down the aging process and even protecting against the damage caused by UV radiation. Broccoli also contains sulforaphane, which has been linked to protecting against cancer. Aside from these benefits, broccoli has also been found to assist with lowering chances of heart disease and diabetes, and its high levels of calcium assist with strengthening bones and keeping joints healthy.

With these and many other health benefits associated with broccoli, it makes sense to include this vegetable as part of a balanced diet. However, those on certain medications, like blood thinners, or who suffer from certain ailments like kidney disease or IBS should first consult their doctors to check how much of this vegetable they can consume.

For anyone who is still not convinced they’ll be able to add broccoli to their diet, there’s always the option of introducing broccoli sprout powder instead. This option masks the flavour and removes the texture barrier while still providing the nutritional value that makes broccoli great.
