Boomtown Gurgaon’s All-inclusive Growth has Been Good for Parsel Delivery Businesses
There was a time, a couple of decades ago, when no parsel delivery service would have wanted to go to a non-descript village called Gurgaon, located 25 kilometers away from Delhi. They would have found the commute through dusty rural roads unworthy of a trip to deliver anything in there, let alone set up an office. Today, you can bet, the very same package delivery services would be ready to invest way beyond their means to get an office space in Gurgaon just for the growth value.
Two decades ago, internet was practically non-existent at least in India and snail mail letters were the only way of communicating over long distances. Gurgaon’s only claim to fame at that point of time was the Maruti plant and even that was some distance away from where downtown Gurgaon has sprung up today. Although STD calling services were well-developed across most towns and cities, villages like Gurgaon were not as well connected as the cities.
People in Gurgaon relied on India Post to deliver their communication to wherever they wanted to communicate. Courier companies had not begun operations in Gurgaon till then it was not sustainable economically. Today any company dealing in mail and package delivery would invest beyond their means to get a foothold in the bustling city of Gurgaon. Scores of companies with varied package and document delivery requirement make this place.
