Best Trekking Spots In Maharashtra You Didn't Know About

Maharashtra has some cool trekking spots amidst the Western Ghats. Many trekkers love to visit these forts and waterfalls during the summer and monsoon season. Most of them are moderately difficult to trek but if you push yourself too hard you might feel that trekking is very difficult.

After a nearby trek to Lohgad or Lonavla, you can stay for a night at some of the best resorts in mulshi.

Lohagad fort

Situated at a distance of 11 km from Lonavala and 66 km away from Pune, this fort is a must-visit for trekkers who love the view of lush green hills and complex systems of the fort. When you reach the top of Lohagad you can see how meticulously this fort was made.

Lohagad fort is a separation between the two basins called as the Indrayani Basin and Pawna Basin. This fort was created by Guru Govind Singh in 1564 CE to serve as a prison. This trekking spot is very popular because of its easy access, lush green surroundings, and the best time to visit it is in Monsoons.

Kasulbai Peak

Kasulbai Peak is 165 km away from Mumbai and 174 km away from Pune, it is situated in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. Kasulbai peak is 1646m and it is the highest peak of Maharashtra. This place lies in the Kasulbai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary. The peak is in the shape of a small plateau and offers a beautiful view of the nearby forts and the Bhandardara Dam. In history, this peak was used to keep watch of enemies during the Maratha rule.

People also visit the Kasulbai Temple when they trek to the peak. The best time to visit this mountain is from September to February.

Harishchandragad Fort

Harishchandragad fort is situated 15 km away from Malshej Ghat and 166 and 218 km away from Pune and Mumbai respectively. 

This fort used to play a major role in the history of guarding and controlling the nearby area. It was made around the 6th century during the rule of the Kalchuri dynasty. Sage Changdev used to meditate in the 14th century AD.

The fort has various temples carved in it. There are three ways to reach Harishhchandragad,  via Khireshwar Village, via Nalichi Vaat, and the easiest one via Paachnai village.

Rajgad Fort

Situated 54km away from Pune, this hill fort is one of the ancient forts of Maharashtra. Rajgad fort used to be the capital of the Maratha Empire during the reign of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for 25 years. It was the most favorite fort of his and he stayed here the most.

The fort is divided into four parts. 

The four parts are called as Sanjeevani Machi, Suvela Machi, Padmavati Machi, and Balekilla.
