by Philip Smith Inbound Marketing Manager

Matte is a surface finish, coating, or treatment given to porcelain tiles. Matte porcelain tiles add a low-sheen appeal to your floors and walls.

Compare to glossy, glazed, and polished porcelain tiles, matte porcelain tiles are harder and more durable. Porcelain is put among the most durable flooring and walling material. If you want your floors to last for years, porcelain is the choicest material to go with.

Cleaning Matte-finish Porcelain Tiles

If you are using matte finish tiles, you can expect your walls and floors to perform for longer. Moreover, since these tiles have a less-reflective finish, they do not highlight dust and dirt and make your floor or wall appear unattractive. But there is a drawback of these tiles. These tiles are harder to clean than polished and glossy porcelain tiles.

And that does not mean these tiles are not a worthy invest. The solution is, you should keep your matte porcelain flooring and walling clean. Here are few tips to maintain matte finish porcelain tile surfaces –

  • Add about 1 gallon of warm water into a bucket.
  • Mix a mild detergent and surface disinfectant into the water.
  • You can also consider adding 1 or 2 tablespoonfuls of vinegar, baking soda, or lemon/lime juice into the water. (Note: do not use vinegar and lemon juice, if you have matte finish natural stone flooring.)
  • You can use this mixture to wipe, mop, and wash your matte porcelain wall and floor. But avoid “washing” matte porcelain surfaces frequently. In fact, try to keep your matte flooring as dry as possible.
  • Remove dust with broom or vacuum before wiping or mopping the surface. It will help enhance the shine of your flooring.
  • Use clean mop or cloth for mopping and wiping.
