Best On-Page SEO Practices

by Ben Goodman ***
Off-page is only one aspect of search engine optimization (SEO). How optimized your onsite pages factor largely on how high you’ll rank in search results. You need to consider all aspects of your webpage—from how responsive it is on other devices to how long your content is. You need to look at the quality of your on-page link building, and if your page has enough images to engage users and encourage them to stay.

Want to get ahead? Study these on-page SEO tactics.

SEO

Make your URLs short

The structure of a URL can either help or hurt your search engine rankings. SEO-friendly URLs are ones that aren’t too long or too confusing. They should be simple and short, and should be directly relevant to the content of your page, and if at all possible, contain your keywords.

Here are examples of a bad URL:

Yourwebsite.com/9opkdhjrmejr556777t-socialmedia
Yourwebsite.com/digitalmarketing/RRsgsdHKSbls=?

Here is an example of what an SEO-friendly URL looks like:
Yourwebsite.com/socialmediatools
Yourwebsite.com/digitalmarketingtips

Add Internal Links

Make sure that your keywords are linked to other pages on your website. This helps search engines determine the structure and relationship of your pages, and helps them figure out which pages belong to the same topic. It also helps measure the relevance of your content. More than that, it helps drive traffic to other areas in your website as well.

Add Compelling Visuals

You have to make sure they’re relevant, of course. The purpose of this is to reduce bounce rates and keep your readers at your page. It’s very discouraging to click on a link and land on a huge block of text. It looks boring and it makes visitors eager to click the close button. Images not only appeal to your readers, it also aids them in understanding the content of your pages.

There are many kinds of visuals—from stock photos to icons to illustrations. In this day and age, it’s inexcusable not to incorporate graphics. But don’t put too many photos or photos that are too large as it will affect the site’s loading speed, which leads us to the next tip.

Speed Up Your Website

Google indicates that site speed is a factor in ranking pages. Beyond SEO, a slow webpage also has high bounce rates, and discourages visitors from returning to your website. Remember that you lose potential customers for every second after that first two seconds of loading time.

To increase your site speed, make sure you choose the right server. Avoid redirected pages, especially if they’re completely unnecessary, as it triggers an extra HTTP request. Also have a limit for the file size of the images or videos you put on your site. The larger it is, the longer it takes to load.
