Best Essay on Winter Season

by Austin Clarke Content Writer
The best thing about nature is that it keeps on changing. Months after months, different seasons come and leave, only to come back again the next year. Of all the seasons, I think winter is the best season. It is that time of year where people stay indoors and either sleep inside the warm blankets or eat hot delicious food.

However, the intensity of the season differs from region to region. Few regions witness heavy snowfall and frosting cold weather. Whereas, other regions just feel the drop in the temperature with fog and bearable coldness. The best part about winters is that it makes everything more beautiful. Trees, mountains and huts are covered with the thick layer of snow almost making everything look like a pure white delicious cream.

Like every other weather, here as well, some people love winters and some don’t. People go to the hill station to enjoy the snowfall and they do camping and light a bonfire. These are some special features of winter season - bonfire, using blankets, woollen clothes, drinking hot beverages and spending time with family and friends.

Winter falls between autumn and spring every year. Interestingly, when it’s winter in the Northern hemisphere of the earth, the Southern hemisphere witnesses summer season in its region. During winters the nights are longer and the days are shorter.

Winter is also a hibernating period for some animals. Hibernation is a way through which some animals try to survive the cold weather and lack of food. They cut down their metabolism and shut themselves inside their abodes to protect themselves from the changing weather and its atrocities. Whereas, some other animals enjoy this weather such as polar bear and penguins.

Now we got to know about the characteristics of winter. But why do we have winters?
Just like we have days and nights because the moon revolves around the earth, we have different seasons because the earth revolves around the sun. As you know earth takes 365 days to revolve around the sun. That part of the earth that is tilted farthest to the sun gets winter (since the heat is not effective in those regions) and vice versa.

The most interesting thing about winters is the birds’ migration. Many birds migrate to the warmer region when winter arrives. Due to the cold weather, it becomes difficult for them to find food and they leave for a better place. Once the winter ends, they come back to their place. In fact, not only birds but monarch butterflies, sea turtles, and salmon (a type of fish) also migrate.

Winter Season in India

In India, winter season generally starts in November and stays till February. You can find people sitting on their terrace under the sun or sitting near the bonfire. Nowadays, people prefer sitting inside their bedrooms with heaters and blankets. During winter season fruits like oranges, carrots, grapes, guavas and vegetables like cauliflower and peas are easily available.

Most of the people would agree to these that during winters, our mothers make us wear layers or woollen clothes. We don’t want to leave the bed in early mornings and we love to eat hot delicious food.

Last but not the least, as well all know, Santa comes in winter!
