Best Attractions At Frieze London And Frieze Masters Art Carnival
London has always been one of the most popular destinations among art lovers and enthusiasts. The capital of England is quite famous across the world for its rich culture, heritage, and art. London has been among the few notable cities across world where various art revolutions took place. Be it contemporary of modern art, you will find numerous examples of every kind all across the city. The English capital is also one of the most popular destinations of some of the greatest art festivals that happen in the world. This includes the Frieze London and Frieze Masters art fairs.
It has been 13 years since the first Frieze London festival began. This has been the largest carnival of contemporary art in the city. You will not find a larger art carnival of contemporary art in the country. This Frieze London festival is reckoned internationally as one of the most important contemporary art festivals in the world. Just four years back this festival was joined by its sister fair Frieze Masters. This was an important development since this marked the bridging of the gap that remained between contemporary and middle-age art. With this collaboration the festival gained even higher importance and it became an event with a force to be reckoned with at the international level.
If you are going to visit London during the festival this year, make sure you take out enough time from your schedule to enjoy every aspect of it. The sheer number of exhibits might be a bit too overwhelming for any art enthusiasts, but make a list of the best exhibits in the carnival, and you will have it all planned and chalked out. If you have been to the Frieze Masters previous year, you will know that the best booth was set up by Helly Nahmad. The entire set was a spectacular arrangement, resembling the home of a fictional art collector. This year it is promised to be even more spectacular, what that will be is something yet to be found out. If you move to E7 you will come across an exhibit which has been dedicated to Carmen Herrera. This is in commemoration of the 100th birthday of this New York based artist. Lisson Gallery dedicated a complete exhibit (in E7) to this artist. If you are looking for something more recent, you will love to check out the solo display of American twentieth century artist Sam Gilliam. You will find this display by Los Angeles based David Kordansky in C6. The English capital is also becoming the home to Cornish coastline for a few days during the carnival as Richard Green creates a stand bringing together Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth. Visit the stand E2 to be witness to this wonderful exhibit.
Frieze has been one of the most enchanting and spectacular art shows in London over the years. It is today most well known among the international tourists as one of the best art exhibitions in the world. Every year thousands of tourists flock into London to be witness to this contemporary and middle-age art carnival. With the social media becoming ever more prominent in the life of the general people Instagram has become an unofficial virtual exhibit of this carnival and its various aspects. Having 164 galleries, all under one roof, can indeed become quite confusing for those who are visiting the exhibition as to where to actually start. If you are more of an unorthodox explorer and do not like sticking to the grid you will like to check out the unconventional displays in the show. Underground chamber by Jeremy Herbert, which also happens to be a part of the Frieze Project, which states, “There be stairs to we don’t know where!” is something that you should never miss out. The Night Gallery based on Los Angeles in stall G27 is something that is also not to be missed. You might also love the live art performances. One such will be at L3, Arcadia Missa, where you will find Amalia Ulman performing. You will, however, have to leave your mobile with the guards before you can enter this space. If human portrait is something that really fascinates you, you should not miss out the free portrait creation by Ken Kagami at Misako & Rosen in G19.
Walking up and down the aisles of the exhibit and checking out the interior of the show can become quite tiresome as well as you may feel like you need a breath of fresh air. You can get some refreshment and also enjoy the art displays at the Frieze Sculpture Park, which is absolutely free and is located within the Regents Park. Claire Lilley of Yorkshire Sculpture Park has created a line up of impressive displays which are definitely going to be the finest autumnal respite. ‘Holey Wall’ by Anri Sala is the location where you will find most of the live performances at the carnival.
Planning a trip to London during the carnival should involve getting a decent accommodation as well. Given the popularity of this art fest it is best to have the plans made well in advance and the bookings confirmed at the best hotels available. In terms of ease of access and the service being provided, my personal choice is one of the central city road hotel London. These hotels are perfect because of their centralised location which offers great connectivity to all other parts of the city. The Marble Arch by Montcalm London does an impressive job of providing the best accommodation to those who are travelling to London any time of the year. You should check out their availability even when you are visiting London to enjoy the art carnival.
