Benefits of the golf course in cities
by TM Maria Be a king in your own kingdomA golf course provides benefits to both humanity and
wildlife. In Latin America due to lack of urban planning, perhaps a golf course
is our only guarantee to preserve a microsystem in the middle of our cities
full of concrete and asphalt.
In the following paragraphs, with the assistance of some
books and personal experience, I will communicate some of the most relevant
points in which a well-maintained golf course contributes to the city and
citizens. Here you can know more about golf course
management companies.
The ecosystem of a golf course and its surroundings provide
habitat for wildlife. On a golf course located on 70 hectares, only about 30%
should be used on fairways, shots and greens. The rest, from the rough to the
bushes, trees and native or "non-playable" areas is special for
wildlife recreation since they feel protected from the rough that is regularly
cut to inch or inch and a half.
Also, the lake and its surroundings, depending on how
natural we have it, is a paradise for birds and their food chain. Considering
that this part was a land assigned to receive rubble, it has greater merit.
Sometimes the fields are built on hills, they function as an
excellent buffer and protection against erosion. Regularly in the first rains
of the season, the current involves loose soil and debris. When passing through
a golf course, this soil is well tied with pastures and, far from
contaminating, contributes. In the rainy season, the golf course also favors
the filling of the aquifer.
The field itself improves a community by assisting in the
reduction of global warming and carbon storage. Improve your surroundings
directly and indirectly, you will even feel less heat than in the city than for
obvious reasons of being pure concrete and asphalt, you feel hell.
In recent times, there are more institutions involved with
the environment in relation to golf. Also, different design brands are
correcting their practices since there are fortunately more clients aware of
the care of the nature. Personally, we have been implementing more and more
sustainable best practices in our designs.
Although some old models still contribute "bounce"
to nature. Today, it is important that a golf community is projected and built
under a model of awareness, sensitivity and respect from the first stroke.
