Benefits of Heat Treated Pallets

by Keemo John Best Services Provider

INTRODUCTION: Heat treated pallet is a pallet which has been given heat treatment to eradicate pests from them, pallet is heated until it reaches a core temperature of 140 degrees for at least 30 minutes, this process kills insects and makes the pallet qualified as per the international standards. Companies that do international business know the benefits of heat-treated pallets; they have to comply with certain international export standards. Heat-treated pallets are kind of mandatory for exports at the same time they are less prone to wood rot and other issues that arise due to moisture in the wood of pallets as heat-treated pallets have very low moisture content.

The Heat Treated Pallet has several benefits which we will discuss in detail but they are costly as well, so along with benefits comes the higher price tag, also there is the challenge of maintaining a fleet of certified heat-treated pallets. Also, it takes additional time to manufacture these pallets and getting them in a sufficient quantity can be difficult and manufacturers also increase the price when demand grows.

BENEFITS: There is more than one way of completing heat treatment, after the treatment wood is marked with a stamp which shows that the treatment was completed in compliance with internationally required standards.

  1. IN COMPLIANCE WITH EXPORT STANDARDS: The international phytosanitary standard for wood packaging, also known as ISPM-15 requires that all wood packaging is heat treated before export to other countries. This is mainly to decrease the risk of pest infection. Heat-treated pallets comply with these required standards. Largest California Pallet Company, gracious wood works manufacture Heat treated pallets which are up to the ISPM-15 requirements. They have very decent track records and their heat-treated pallets are always manufactured with the same set of standard procedures.

  2. THEIR WEIGHT IS LESS THAN NORMAL PALLETS: It is for the reason that wood absorbs moisture but when pallets are given heat treatment then most of the moisture is gone and the weight of pallets gets slightly reduced. Although they dont lose any significant weight when many pallets are transported at once there is a dramatic loss in weight that results in lower fuel usage. The Largest California Pallet Company, gracious wood works are renowned as far as manufacturing heat-treated pallets are concerned.

  3. IT REDUCES THE RISK OF GROWTH OF BACTERIA: Wood is a porous material which absorbs moisture and can be a breeding ground for bacteria. This growth of bacteria and MOLD on the surface of pallets can reach the products as well which pallets are carrying, with heat treatment risk of growth of bacteria and MOLD gets significantly reduced.

  4. ECO- FRIENDLY: Heat-treated pallets mean that wood is preserved as it is resistant to pests, also with heat treatment wood pallets last long and can be used over and over again. Maybe they are expensive when you buy them but in the long run, they save you some money if you compare the life of normal pallets and heat-treated pallets.
