Well, if you have a super glossy black granite worktop (or any other colour you may like) installed in your kitchen and wish to keep it that way; you probably are in the best place. This article will see you through some of the most common, yet overlooked Do’s and Don’ts of granite countertop care and maintenance.
Read on.

DO’S

1.DO wipe away spills immediately- And it’s not just applicable to the granite worktop; even if you have any other worktop like timber, quartz or laminates at your place, remember this one golden rule to keep them spick and span throughout the year. Acidic substances like coffee, tea, wine and cooking oils need to be wiped immediately from the surface to prevent staining.

2.DO use trivets under hot pots and pans- Yes granites are durable and would not crack because of the heat from the pans, but we would still advise you to use hot pads and/or trivets under hotpots to avoid long term discolouration and scarring of the surface.

DON’TS

1.DON’T use harsh cleaning products- Using harsh chemical products like bleach and de-greasers would only degrade the sealer of your granite or quartz worktops which further leaves the surface vulnerable to damage from spills and splashes. Use good quality granite cleaners from established companies even if they are a little costly to maintain your worktop surfaces.

2.DON’T use household chemicals- Another mistake most homemakers make with regular cleaning of their kitchens is to use household products like vinegar, lemon juice or ammonia to clean their countertops which in fact are highly acidic in nature and thus harm the shine and disinfectant properties of the stone. Instead use dish soaps of neutral pH with some warm water to clean off the surface on a regular basis.

Although kitchen granite worktops hardly crack or scratch, it is still advised to use cutting boards instead of cutting your vegetables on the counter to protect your knife blades and possible minor scratches on the countertop surface.

If you still face any issues with you granite worktop, don’t hesitate to contact your initial countertop installer company since most of the granite stones come with a lifetime warranty and/or guarantee cover for more than a decade. This would help you save money on the repair costs while ensuring that you get professional service from expert stonemasons who understand your specific requirements.
