Basic comparison between marble tile and porcelain tile

Selecting the right material is the first step in choosing a tile for any flooring project. For example, if you have fallen in love with the beauty of natural stone, you can choose marble tile. It is a stone made by nature and you will not find two tiles alike. It has variations that only mother nature can create. Porcelain, on the other hand, is a tile made by man. It is generally formed by pressing fine grain porcelain clay together to produce a tile that has low water absorption rate.

Marble and porcelain tiles have their own list of advantages and disadvantages. Marble can be used on walls, but they find more popularity for wrapping indoor surfaces like backsplashes, sinks, kitchen islands and countertops.  On the other hand, porcelain is hard and used for flooring as well interior and exterior walls because they can endure cold and moisture. As compared to marble, porcelain tiles are less liable to stain. You should be careful while buying them as thinner pieces may be brittle and may be prone to chipping at the installation.  It may be damaged when something hard is dropped on them.

If we talk about them in terms of maintenance, marble requires more maintenance than porcelain. Marble should be installed and sealed professionally and have to be regularly cleaned to keep them looking good and away from staining. On the other hand, porcelain tiles do not require much care and maintenance. Though you need a professional help to get them installed, their upkeep is easy.  They will do not get stained as quickly as marble.
