Baby Walking Shoes – Things to Remember When Buying

by Helen Martin Baby Shoes

Choosing the baby’s first shoe is a very important decision for every parent and it is important to choose the right walking shoes for babies. These shoes need to be chosen keeping in mind the foot measurements of the child, because a shoe which is ill fitting would be the last thing anybody would want. It is equally important to check whether the length, width or depth of the shoe fits the child well. The material with which the shoe is manufactured must be soft and not too hard since a hard material would not help the child in the development of his or her feet and would actually hamper the development by creating discomfort to the baby while walking. Additionally, it can also cause sore feet or shoe bite to the baby while walking which would not encourage the baby to walk any further. Additionally it is also important that the shoe sole supports the heels of the baby and is firm, yet soft and of the material which provides ample amount of cushioning to the baby’s little feet.

Baby shoes are usually manufactured with materials such as cotton or canvas materials, but even leather baby walking shoes are available for purchase. If bought from some good manufacturers, the shoes are made from breathable leather materials which are also soft and bend easily so that the children feel a lot of ease when walking. Unlike the hard leather which is used for the adult shoes, the soft breathable leather material is used for the baby shoes, which ensure that the baby feet have sufficient room for development and also have good breathable feel when worn.

However, when the baby starts walking, it is best that the child learns to walk bare foot since this would help the baby to develop a better grip. A child’s feet will develop more naturally if he or she is allowed to walk bare foot. Once the baby walks with ease, baby walking shoes can be purchased. However, it is very important to remember that stiff shoes are not good for the baby’s feet. Shoes are required only to protect the baby’s feet from sharp objects, at that stage. Additionally, it is also important to check the size of the baby’s feet every now and then to ensure that the baby has not overgrown the size and if so it will be necessary to change the shoes. The shoe should also not be too tight since this can lead to improper walking style. Skid proof soft soles are important, to ensure that the baby does not skid while walking. A great recommendation would be to choose shoes with Velcro or slip-ons.
