Australia Student Visa from India: Process & Requirements

Indians keen to study in Australia have to first confirm the eligibility and requirements for Australia Student Visa from India. The Study Visa policies have been modified and SSVF - Simplified Student Visa Framework is in force since 1 July 2016.

All students seeking to study in Australia have to now file applications for the Subclass 500 Visa. This is according to the fresh guidelines for Student Visa implemented by the Government of Australia.

Key Features of the latest SSVF for Australia Student Visa

Previously, the classification of the Study Visas was according to the Risk for Immigration. In this model students applying from specific nations were classified under the Framework for Assessment Level. The latest policy has blended nation and framework for immigration risk replacing the previous Framework for Assessment Level. Paper-based or offline applications have been discontinued permanently.

The latest SSVF classifies the students according to both:

Nationality

The nationality of a student is determined by their Passport.  Regardless of the place of application of the students, the nationality of their Passport will be considered.

For example, an Indian Student is residing in the US and is applying for Australia Study Visa from the US. The risk levels as specified by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for India will be considered for such an applicant.

A tool has been adopted by the DIBP that identifies a student according to the Modernized/Normal process.  The tool then correspondingly displays the list of documents that the students are required to submit. It is advisable that the students arrange all the documents specified by the tool. DIBP has the authority to seek all or some of the documents at the application time.

Documents mandatory for Australia Student Visa

You are required to determine the required documents as specified by the SSVF tool on the website of DIBP. We have here outlined all the probable documents that can be asked for under Modernized and Normal Evidentiary documentation.

You must also note that as the application can be submitted online only, you have to arrange the scanned copies of the listed documents prior to commencing the online application. Also, the list of Normal Evidentiary Documentation is apart from those needed for processing under SSVF.

• A Passport that has a minimum of 6 months validity ahead of your period of residence in Australia
• Application form for Non-immigrant Visa
• Receipt of payment of application fee
• COE - Confirmation of Enrolment Form

You have to be fully enrolled in an institution in Australia to receive the Study Visa and first obtain the COE. The form is offered by the Australian institution you have enrolled in after receiving the tuition fees.

• Latest digital photos
• Certificates, Degrees, Diplomas, or Transcripts from the institutions that you have attended
• Results of test for English Language
• SOP - Statement of Purpose
• Proof of monetary capability

When and How to Apply for an Australia Student Visa?

The processing of an Australia Student Visa can require up to 124 days prior to the start of your study program. You can arrive in Australia a maximum of 3 months prior to the commencement of your study program. Here are the steps to be followed.

You have to first create an account online and then log in to your Immi-Account for starting the application. The Visa application form has to be filled in corresponding to the Subclass Visa under which you are eligible.

Registered Migration Agents and Education Agents/Study Overseas Consultants in India who are registered for accessing the online application facility can file a Study E-Visa application on your behalf.

You are required to again login to your Immi-Account for tracking the status of your application. It can also be used for attaching documents, updating details of passport, changing email or address information, and tracking application progress.

Every online application is provided with a unique number – TRN or Transaction Reference Number. You will need it for tracking and managing your application, identifying instances for communicating with the Visa authorities, and checking your Visa entitlements.
