As Dig Reboots Software Testers Are Needed
Software testing is a role and a responsibility we take for
granted. We fail to realise and understand the importance of the job and the
responsibilities they hold.
Every time we pick up our phone, turn on our computer or
type on our keyboard; we have the software tester involved to thank that it
works as efficiently as it does.
However, it is not just our products which they test and
ensure they work well without danger; it is also databases and software itself.
Digg; the social network we all just love in order to find
out the latest gossip; well that has the software testing qualification to
thank also. Digg has been reborn and improved in ways no one thought possible.
The new service which has been provided for the public is aimed to update the
company’s mission to find the best information from the web and put it on their
site, in order to become the most used social network of 2012. Digg has now
been brought by a New York company for a reported $500,000. This new ownership
agreed it was time to rebuild the website in order for it to compete in the
competitive social media market, with its main competitors being Twitter and
Facebook.
This massive rebuild was done over a 5 week period, which
meant a great deal of coffee and red bull for the company and the company’s
software testers. It was vital the software and database was tested to ensure
it was safe to use and would not cause trouble for their customers.
Digg has become something special on the web for its users
as it allows them to decide what news is the most interesting and publish it on
their website. In fact it has done so well that it was rumoured that Google
wanted to buy it for a near $2 million!
The new Digg is thought to be a lot better than the previous
version and the company has set up a feedback website for users to comment
their thoughts and feelings, in order for the company to have a coherent
understanding of what their users want and require from the site.
However during the time it took for them to get the new site
up and running, Digg is thought to have lost its users. This is now a busy time
for them as they try to get them back on the site.
Therefore, software testing is really an important role to
play and has many consequences if it is not completed to a high standard. This
role is important to society especially today when we rely on websites to get
news and information about the world around us. The principles these software
testers work by are taught through software testing training courses; the
courses which hold the key to the future.
