If one wishes to see a strong indication of just how popular Andalucía is coming even by its own already-high standards, one would only need to look at the latest tourism figures.

Indeed, as recently disclosed by the Ministry of Tourism, the region has just enjoyed its most successful summer ever in terms of the number of overnight hotel stays – a whopping 26 million between June and September.

“The best summer in history”

The Ministry said in a statement: “Andalucía has completed the best summer in history after receiving 8.4 million travellers from June to September and adding a total of 26.2 million stays during the same period.”

The record-breaking figure represents a 3.5% jump on the numbers seen in the summer of 2018, and was largely powered by the domestic market, which grew by 6.5%. However, there was also a 0.7% increase in foreign visitors.

Such stellar growth also spelt great news for the hotel industry, which saw about 47,000 jobs created – a 4.2% rise on last summer.

These remarkable numbers complement another report that said Spain’s travel and tourism industry as a whole had generated more than €40 million during the first seven months of 2019 – a 3.6% increase on the same period last year.
