AHOY me hearties!

This Grimsby couple tied the knot in the most unusual way at a pirate themed wedding.

The swashbuckling ceremony took place on Saturday as Richard Peall and Amber Petchey said "Aye do".

The pirate pair, Amber, 29, and Richard, 35, took to Grimsby Registry Office for the official ceremony before moving their 100-strong guest list to Grimsby Town Hall.

With performances from acoustic group Monkey's Fist and the Monster Ceilidh Band, celebrations were in full swing.

The couple call themselves Pastafarians, who belong to the Church Of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, a social movement that promotes a light-hearted view of religion.

Their wedding also fittingly happened to fall on "International Talk Like A Pirate Day".

When asked why they decided on the theme, Richard simply said: "Pirates are awesome."

He added: "It's just a giant kids' party but for adults."

The banquet room in the town hall was decorated with palm trees, gold coins and treasure chests, all handmade by bride Amber.

Even the wedding invitations were treasure maps.

Richard added: "A lot of time, effort and love has gone into the wedding".

The couple have been together since 2006 and have been planning their dream pirate wedding for nearly three years.

They wanted to take the often stuffy and serious reputation of weddings and turn it on its head.

"Today has been a celebration about who we are," Richard explained.

"I'm not a shirt and tie person so to be able to dress up as a pirate has been great," he said in full pirate gear complete with replica sword and pistol.

He added: "One of the main things about a pirate is their freedom of expression.

"The wedding has been relaxed and there are zero formalities.

"No seating plan, we're pirates we sit where we want, we just wanted it be a party where people can come and have fun with us."
