Ariana Grande dedicated her American Music Award to her 'nonna'.

The Break Free hitmaker was honoured with the gong for Best Female Pop/Rock Artist of the Year on Sunday evening at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The 22-year-old took to the stage wearing a floral strapless dress which had a sheer lace skirt section, complete with pink peplum detail.

Beating the likes of Meghan Trainor and Taylor Swift to the crown, and thanked her grandmother in an emotional tribute.

Through tears, she said: 'I just want to thank my fans - I have the most incredible fans. Ew I'm crying! But I love you guys. Thank you so, so much.

'I also want to say thank you to my family who are here tonight. I owe a lot of this to my Nonna!'

The beautiful star also revealed her grandmother had predicted her win ahead of the ceremony.

Recalling what Marjorie said to her, she added: 'Ariana I went on the computer. I voted, so I think you’ll win.'

Meanwhile, during the star-studded ceremony, Ariana made her first televised performance of her track Focus.

She ditched her trademark hairdo and let her tresses fall down in romantic curls as she performed her new song.

The pretty brunette channelled old Hollywood as she stepped onto stage, glammed up from head-to-toe in a glittering cream-hued dress and long, white gloves.

Walking onto stage from behind a deep red curtain, Ariana got the performance started with a sultry and sexy rendition of her brand new song Focus.

She then approached the crowd and one lucky audience member in particular, who bit the fingertip of her glove before she playfully tossed the garment at him.

Ariana then returned back onto stage and retreated behind the red curtains, but quickly popped back into the spotlight, now donning a skimpier and sexier beaded one-piece.

The curtains parted and revealed the theatrical stage, which was complete with a team of male and female back-up dancers and a live band.

Ariana twirled playfully as she moved on the stage, and climbed up an intricate platform beside her male back-up dancers.

The songbird also grooved at the base of the platform beside her female back-up dancers.

The hitmaker demonstrated her impressive vocal range as she belted out the catchy new song, and received a roaring response from the audience once the routine was complete.
