Argentina's thrilling nightlife; where and when to experience it best!
The
nightlife in Argentina is truly a unique experience unlike many other places in
the world known for their nightlife. What makes nightlife in Argentina so great
is that there are so many venues to choose from, it’s wild, and the parties go
late into the night. For those who have the endurance, the party practically
never stops in Argentina.
When
planning on going out in Argentina, it’s a good idea to keep a few things in
mind. Certain clubs open at 2AM and close after the sun comes up. So to stock
up on energy for the night, do as the Argentinians do and eat a late dinner.
It’s uncommon to have dinner before 9PM in Argentina. Taking a nap after doing
your sight-seeing in the afternoon is a good idea. Any time before 2AM is
generally when Argentinians go to bars for a few drinks or pre game at friends’
homes, also called previa in Spanish.
A great way to experience the nightlife in Argentina is with tour guides to indulge in pub-crawls with locals. You get to meet a few people to hang out with the whole night, partake in a previa beforehand and get quicker access to all the hottest nightlife spots so you don’t have to waste time trying to figure out where to go.
Argentina is world famous for its tango dance but the nightclub scene these days in Argentina is much more than that. However, there are still many places to go if you’d like to experience Argentina’s traditional music and dance. Tango events in Argentina are known as milongas and can be found all over the country. Popular venues for these milongas in Buenos Aires include Cachirulo, Salon Canning, El Yeite Tango Club, La Viuta and Maldita Milonga.
For partygoers who desire a more modern scene, there are endless options. Clubs that cater to the electronic dance music crowd are very popular these days in Argentina. Dance clubs are known as boliches. Good nightclub options in Buenos Aires include Crobar, which brings in the biggest and most mainstream DJs from the electronic music world, and Pacha, known for its three stories and enormous dance floor. If you are a fan of a more eclectic, underground, hipster type of vibe, check out Cocoliche or Bahrein.
For a more laid-back, down-to-earth type of scene, get off the beaten tourist trail and try some cities outside of Buenos Aires. Cordoba and Rosario are great alternative options. Cordoba has a large population of people in their early to mid-twenties given that it’s home to seven large universities. Young adults obviously like to go out and it makes this town quite lively in regards to its nightlife. There’s a bar district in downtown Cordoba on Rondeau street which is packed full of fun little bars. Dorian Gray is a nightclub found in the El Abasto neighborhood which is a fun and popular spot on Saturday nights. The club plays electronic music on its largest dance floor but also has smaller parts of the venue where they play funk, hip hop and other alternative music. Other club options in the same neighborhood include Eras Groove House, Las Heras, Roque Saenz Peña.
Rosario’s nightlife scene is a bit more difficult to navigate because it doesn’t have a single district where a lot of bars and clubs are. But if you consult your local Rosario travel guide and do some Internet research you can find all the hot spots – and hey, you just might get invited to a previa with some locals. Some good nightlife options include MDM (pronounced Madame), McNamara, El Sotano and Waimea. MDM is an enormous dance club venue that has multiple floors and environments. McNamara is a trendy restaurant/club that blends great food and live music. El Sotano is an after-hours club that gets started after midnight and is known for its raucous parties. Waimea is another after-hours club but has more of a laid-back lounge vibe. All over Argentina there are great nightlife spots that cater to all sorts of people. There are clubs for lovers of jazz, rock, alternative, electronic, ska/reggae alike. There is really a place to suit everyone’s preferences and that’s what makes Argentina such a great place for going out.
