Are you unable to log into your AT&T email account:

Are you unable to log into your AT&T email account? Having a hard time sending or receiving emails? Users usually encounter problems due to account settings, incorrect password, connectivity issues or browser incompatibility. Follow these simple steps to regain access to your mail and resolve common issues with AT&T email.

Log-in issues:

Resetting lost/forgotten password:

This is one of the most common problems that users face. AT&T recommends following its password recovery process to ensure proper authentication and security. It is also the fastest to gain back access to your account.

Password not working on your smartphone:

If you have changed your password lately or just linked your email address to your user ID, you might want to update your password on all devices. Learn more about shared passwords.

Your account is deactivated

This can occur if the AT&T service security team flags your account for security reasons, quite possibly for sending excessive spams. To reactivate your account in such a case, contact AT&T customer care.

Webmail and browser troubleshooting:

  • Open your browser and go to Preferences -> Settings/Options. Then, clear your cache and cookies (most common FAQ and solution)

  • Try logging in from another browser or update your current browser. Sometimes, the email features are not supported by your browser and a quick update can solve this.

  • Disable browser extensions or add-on tools.

  • Disable your firewall.

  • Update Java to the latest version

  • Allow Adobe Flash Player to run on your browser.

NOTE: If you use Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer, make sure that they are updated to a version above 15.x

Third-party Mailbox error fixes (Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail)

  • If you are unable to log in to your email through the web, the issue might be in your mailbox or its app.

  • Get the latest version of your mailbox. Not updating your mailbox features can often result in sign-in errors.

  • Change your settings from POP to IMAP. As stated on the official AT&T forum, “The key thing to know about the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) is that it lets you view your email folders the same way on any device, as it’s all synchronized from a central server.”

POP Vs IMAP Settings

Due to maintenance to upgrade the legacy IMAP host to a modernized IMAP infrastructure, some customers may get an SSL Certificate mismatch error within their e-mail client or mobile device

  • Accept the mismatch to update the SSL certificate for the e-mail to work as normal.

  • If there is no option to accept the certificate, remove the e-mail account and set it up again.

  • For older Android devices without auto setup change the following settings.

Incoming Mail Server (IMAP)

  • Server - imap.mail.att.net

  • Port - 993

  • Requires SSL – Yes

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)

  • Server - smtp.mail.att.net

  • Port - 465 or 587

  • Requires SSL - Yes

  • Requires authentication - Yes
