Are teenage modelling classes really necessary?

by Mikey Sigurd Commercial Property Developer

In tough financial times like the recent ones it is often difficult to make ends meet. A lot of money is spent on teenage modelling careers and classes but are these classes really necessary.

From the agency’s perspective

Most agencies prefer to sign models that do not have any training. This will enable the agency to give training to models that will suit the style of modelling they have chosen for the model. Untrained models are also more impressionable and willing to learn new tricks than trained models. There have been cases noted where trained models have been refused contracts based on their training alone.

Some photographers prefer to work with untrained models as well This means the teenage modelling star will be able to portray more pure and raw emotion in the photos.

Form the model’s perspective

Some young models really do need some level of training. When they apply to certain specialised agencies the agency expects a certain degree of model training or poise.  For some young models the good walk and the look comes naturally while others need training to perfect it. Model training will help models to take better direction, to be relaxed in front of the cameras and to have the best possible poise and posture. Teenage modelling the toughest part of the modelling industry, because teen models are mostly used as editorial or fashion models due to their young and fresh looks. The editorial modelling world is a dog eat dog arena where every extra bit of training can make a significant difference.

From the parent’s perspective

The person paying for these modelling classes might feel completely different about them. If the effect of these teenage modelling classes are clearly visible and proven to improve the amount of calls and jobs the model get the parents are likely to approve of the classes. If these classes however does not seem to have any effect on the young model’s career, parents are often the first to reject the idea.

While some parents strive to give their children anything possible to make the best out of their modelling careers other parents simply cannot afford to. Modelling classes are often the places where scammer and fake scouts take root.  Once these safety concerns are evident most parents tend to choose not to send their teenage modelling fanatics to the modelling classes.

Conclusion

When you view the value of modelling classes you from all of the viewpoints deciding if modelling classes are really necessary depend on which vantage points you most closely relate to.
