Are Logistics Companies in Mumbai Ready to Cope with the New Market Realities?
The financial capital of India is the hub of various industries with innumerable functions, employing lacs of people which together leads to huge mail delivery and courier service requirements. This demand is met to a large extent by the logistics companies in Mumbai but the quality of service for ordinary requirements hasn’t quite evolved as huge gaps still remain. If you go to any courier service in the city with a package that has to be delivered locally within the same day if not within a few hours, you are unlikely to find any courier willing to provide you that service without a heavy premium.
Affordable on demand delivery comes to Mumbai
What was perceived to be the exclusive domain of a few big courier services that charged a heavy premium for a half-baked version of what on demand delivery ought to be, is now available to the common man. Courier services in Mumbai are set to change with the arrival of Parsel, an innovative new service that has devised the on demand method of delivery. All that you need to do is call them up, place your demand, sit back and relax. If they promise to deliver your package in less than a couple of hours, rest assured, they will do it and at a price you can afford.
Till now the very idea of on demand services had not quite arrived in this huge metropolis where millions of packages are sent from one place to another every day. As already mentioned, it did exist but only as something exclusive and out of the reach of the common man. The big logistics companies in Mumbai had not even considered the fact that even the common man could have urgencies which itself constitutes a huge market if the demand is considered on merit. Perhaps, they realized that it needs fine-tuning and customizing services to reach a wider segment of the market, which they are not ready to try out as yet.
Instant deliveries are no longer a premium service
People have to deal with scores of priorities every day more so in a city like Mumbai where timelines almost play the role of lifeline. People are almost programmed to run to catch a train even if it is a weekend. To an observer it might appear that there’s no real need for people to be in such hurry all the time but the locals know the value of time better than most others. Suburban Mumbaikars spend 14-15 hours every day away from home and they are naturally inclined to make the most of the weekends when they get to spend some quality time with family and friends.
This is the common man on the street who also has to deal with urgent priorities that sometimes require him to send packages in a hurry. The traditional logistics companies in Mumbai being what they are don’t seem to take this segment too seriously or are not prepared to scale up quality services to reach out to a larger market where they might be required to compromise on pricing. Realities are a little different though; if such a demand exists, at some point there will arrive a service provider who will cater to this market.
