Applying Traditional Chinese Medicine Techniques In The Modern World

by Connie Freeman Health Advisor
Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the concept of ‘Chi’ which when translated means flow of energy. The concept of ‘Chi’ depends on energy of life possessed and controlled by all people, and that this flow of energy, if not allowed to flow properly, causes ailments of different sorts. Although there are people who claim that they can control their ‘Chi’ mentally, a traditional Chinese healer uses massage, diet, herbs and exercises to increase the flow of ‘Chi’ in a patient’s body. This energy flow is generally affected by Yin and Yang (translated as ‘shady’ and ‘sunny’) which are the corresponding or equal-and-opposite aspects of life. Moreover, since ‘Chi’ expresses itself through ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’, the optimal harmony of these two in the body is necessary for good health. Hence, in case there is an imbalance in these two aspects, you’ll need to be healed.

To add on, another traditional Chinese concept is that the human body comprises of Wu Xing (Five Elements), namely; Jin (Metal), Mu (Wood), Shui (Water), Huo (Fire) and Tu (Earth). The concept also states that each of these elements is generated from each other in a mother and son relationship. And any imbalances in them cause the building up of pathogens.

Some of the Traditional Chinese Medication Techniques that are used even today are highlighted below:

  • Zhen Jiu: We Westerners know it as Acupuncture. This involves inserting of needles at proper Acupuncture points or meridians related to the aforementioned ‘Qi’. By placing these needles at the respective points, the ‘Qi’ is restored. Acupuncture is used basically to heal the pain.

  •  Ba Guan: The process uses small glass cups to create suction on the skin. Suction is created in numerous ways, one of which uses a flaming alcohol-soaked ball of cotton. This is then placed in the cup and removed. The interior of the cup is heated up and instantaneously placed on the skin. As the air within the cup cools down, the skin is pulled upwards due to the pressure. After this, the cups are removed, you might have some sores or marks but those are without pain. Note that these cups are placed in the specific points for the flow of blood and Qi. This system is used for respiratory system.

  • Gua Sha: The practice comprises of the scraping of lubricated skin using a ceramic spoon or a coin, an animal bone or a piece of rock. The smooth edge of the implement is rubbed across the skin beginning with the spinal area and is caressed along the meridians. The process is used to relieve the patient of blood stagnation and provide relaxation of muscles. It is used against chronic pain or fevers.

  • Tui Na: This uses several hand-gestures which include kneading, rolling rubbing, etc. It basically encompasses Acupressure and is used to treat musculoskeletal conditions.

Apart from these there are herbs and Ear Candling, which help out in many different ways. If you are looking for a company which provides expert Traditional Chinese Medicine, do contact Natural Healing Center
