Another DIY disaster

by Victor Lee DIY Specialist

Just turning on the TV and we get to see a commercial for the home improvement store, even if not needed, we get that triggering sensation of having a new paint colour or maybe building up the deck you have always wanted. Honestly, nobody wants to have a bad trip to the hardware or paint store and every one of us prefers to simmer down and manage things on our own but sometimes this might not be a good idea!

While the fact remains true that some DIY projects are easy enough to be tackled by the newbie but the other times this idea of doing things yourself is nothing but a disaster. You might have started thinking to save up some cash but if not done the way it should be, DIY projects can even bring you in-depth. Additionally, there are some jobs that are simply too dangerous to give a try on and better be left on the pros. So before you get your hands on a hammer and a table saw, you need to measure the true cost of doing things yourself to ensure that you are never at loss.

Here's a little story that clears up the side effects of considering yourself an all-rounder. Emily an American citizen, always took her painting prep way too seriously but guess what happened? With an intention to paint up the bathroom door, first thing she did was pulling off the handle rather than taping around it. To make things worse the door suddenly stabbed the wall with a lock click, where Emily realized that she left the latch in the door. She gathered some confidence again and tried to fit the handle back but the latch wouldn't catch! She gave a manual try too but it simply wouldn't budge so she brought her nail punch and hammer into the scene and eventually ended up plucking that beautiful door out of the wall after removing the hinges. And that's exactly where she realized that calling a pro was actually saving more cash than what she would be spending to get a new door fixed.

We understand that some days you feel good enough to consider biting the bullet and you tend to tackle those DIY jobs around you but trust us this sure is a risky business! here are some of the disasters that you might end up with and thus want to avoid.

Ladder mishaps

Being on an honest ground ladders sure are scary! While dealing with such a task that demands the role of a ladder do consider the aid of your friend to hold it up for you because safety is the foremost thing you would care about if you don't want to carry trouble along with you. Suppose you want to fix that weird flickering light bulb in the sitting room, ensure that you are backed by a ladder with strong basis so to reduce the chances of you falling. When it comes to electrical work its better to take extra care and call any professional elections.

Any kind of carpet removal

It doesn't even take a penny to assume right? you might think of yourself as a DIY warrior who can tear apart carpets and come up with the stunning wooden floors. But most probably it would leave you bizarre with everything turned to trash. Actually, that is the exact point where you realise calling in a pro is literally worth it. We reckon you leave the job to the professionals and go spend a weekend at the beach while your home is being converted to a mere heaven.

Glass breakage

Do be cautious while swinging those fixing and power tools around because there is a strong possibility that you will have the glass shattering all over the place. When it comes to breakage of glass then you can even expect mini-light bulb explosions but seeing it on a big picture you might be fixing up a fan when the hammer slips from your very hand and smashes the biggest window of your house. Somebody said it right DIY is fraught with so many dangers.

Telling and satisfying yourself that you can handle anything whether it is sanding the floor and changing the lightbulbs or simply unlocking the doors, pulling up the carpets and hanging 20 paintings in just a weekend, is impractical. It is way better to stick to one job that you are sure, won't end you up in a horrible situation and leave the rest to the ones who had been doing it for years. This way you would actually be stocking some cash by your side and not just assuming.

Hope that you made the most out of this article and it will urge you to think before pinging the idea of doing stuff yourself.
